David Horder Medium Photo Package, Saffron Walden Property Photography. This property was shot for Pottrill Holland Property & Estate Agents on 11th October 2024.

Going back to last year with this beautiful period home, located in the centre of Saffron Walden. I posted photographs of their lovely Choco Labrador, but not the house itself.

It was shot on a overly bright October day and is a good example of why I shoot with flashes. The flashes that I always shoot with in this case helped battle back against the hard sun coming through the window and helped balance out the whole shot.

French shutters are really hard to shoot against when it's bright, as it near impossible to see detail though the slats. Being in control of the exposure inside, helps balance out the exposure outside.

The other reason I use my own lighting, is to keep the correct colours of the interior. hard external light can bring its own casting of reflected lights. Such as red from bricks, green from trees and in winter, blue light when looking away from an overly yellow sun.

The living room had blue walls and fireplace, this can look green with bright yellow sun hitting it, so I wanted to keep the actual colour. Which adding daylight coloured flashes can achieve.

This is a really beautiful house with some amazing period features and hopefully it was shown in its true light...pun intended.
